Dil Bahadur Chaudhary, Chief Minister of Lumbini resigned

LUMBINI- Dil Bahadur Chaudhary, Chief Minister of Lumbini has resigned from his position. Chaudhary, who was appointed as the Chief Minister with the support of eight political parties and an independent candidate, on the 14th of last year, had been in a minority after the Nepali Congress withdrew its support coalition with the Maoist Center in the center of a month ago.

Amid efforts to gather a majority, he had called a meeting of the Provincial Assembly on Thursday to seek a vote of confidence. After failing to muster a majority, he announced his resignation while addressing the Provincial Assembly meeting. In his resignation announcement, he stated that he would support and criticize the upcoming government based on its merits and demerits for the development and prosperity of the province.

With Chaudhary’s resignation, the path to forming a new government has opened up. The Maoist Center, which leads the Lumbini government’s coalition, is engaged in discussions with other parties to form a new government. Maoist Center Lumbini State leader Jokh Bahadur Mahara is preparing to take the oath of office soon. Earlier, when CPN-UML’s parliamentary party leader Lila Giri became the Chief Minister on December 11, 2079, Mahara had served as Finance Minister for about three months.

It is claimed that the new coalition has conducted discussions with other small parties to share power and form a cabinet.

The coalition partner parties, CPN-UML, Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party, and United Socialist Party, have prepared a written understanding paper and are expected to sign it on Thursday.
