MAKWANPUR- The Makwanpur Police Office seized a significant quantity of illegally imported goods from the southern border, avoiding tax obligations.
In an operation led by the Area Police Office in Manahari, goods valued at Rs. 7.7 million were confiscated from a stretch of the East-West Highway in Manahari Rural Municipality-7, within Makwanpur district, on Wednesday.
Among the seized items were a variety of branded clothing, mobile phone accessories, new iPhones, and assorted mobile phone units. The police also impounded a TATA vehicle bearing registration number BAD 4370, which was transporting the illicit goods.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Bhandari explained that the confiscated items lacked proper purchase documentation. The vehicle, en route from Lothar to Hetauda, was intercepted during a routine security check, resulting in the seizure of 82 sets of mobile phones, including iPhones, along with 2,744 sets of clothing items.
The driver, identified as Raj Kumar Chaudhary, 28, from Triyuga Municipality-13, Udayapur, was apprehended by the authorities. Both the detained individual and the seized merchandise were subsequently handed over to the Office of Revenue Investigation in Pathalaiya, Bara, for further investigation.
