Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister and Population, Upendra Yadav, has urged the public to consider posthumous organ donation, emphasizing its potential to save numerous lives.
Speaking at an event commemorating World Kidney Day, he stressed the importance of fostering a culture of organ donation, particularly kidneys, as a means to address the critical shortage. Yadav highlighted that organs from individuals who experience brain death could be invaluable in saving multiple lives.
The global observance of World Kidney Day, themed ‘Kidney Health for All – Advancing equitable access to care and optimal medication practice’, was echoed in Nepal as well. Yadav underscored the significance of raising public awareness about kidney donation to address the pressing need.
Furthermore, he noted that individuals with conditions such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease, and those with imbalanced diets are at heightened risk of kidney ailments. Data reveals that 10 percent of the global population suffers from kidney diseases, emphasizing the urgency of preventive measures and increased access to healthcare.
