Kathmandu, Nepal– In Kathmandu Valley, there has been rainfall accompanied by strong winds and hail. Experts have advised caution, as the strong winds could uproot trees and the hail could cause damage to crops.
Dr. Dharmaraj Upreti, a disaster management expert, has stated that cooperation is needed to reduce pollution as pollution levels have been increasing along with the onset of waterlogging in the valley.
“Currently, due to rainfall accompanied by strong winds and hail, it is necessary to exercise caution,” he said. “Air pollution has increased due to forest fires in most districts of the country. The rainfall will help reduce air pollution.”
On Tuesday and Wednesday, when air pollution increased in the valley, Kathmandu was listed as the world’s most polluted city for the first time. According to the Air Quality Index, AQI was 265 on Wednesday afternoon. Pollution levels were at 165 AQI on Monday and peaked at 200 on Tuesday. On Thursday, pollution was limited to 177 AQI.
