Krishna Bahadur Mahara to be released without bail

Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the former Speaker and Vice Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), is slated to be released without bail, under the condition that he makes himself available at the Crime Investigation Bureau as required.

Mahara was previously apprehended in Bhairahawa following recommendations from the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission to take legal action against him.

The Kathmandu District Court had initially granted a four-day remand for Mahara to aid further investigation, which concluded on Thursday.

However, due to his health condition, the CIB was instructed to allow Mahara to remain hospitalized, resulting in his admission to Norvic Hospital.

Since his arrest, Mahara has provided a statement at the public prosecutor’s office, asserting his innocence in the gold smuggling case.

Both the CIB and the public prosecutor’s office have recorded Mahara’s statement regarding his alleged involvement in the gold smuggling case.
