Chidambaram’s latest directorial venture, “Manjummel Boys,” has etched its name in Malayalam cinema history by emerging as the highest-grossing film to date, surpassing the previous record held by Jude Anthany Joseph’s “2018.” Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received, the team took to Instagram to share their joy, marking the film’s milestone achievement.
With a staggering worldwide earning exceeding Rs 180 crore, “Manjummel Boys” has garnered around Rs 62 crore from international markets alone. Its domestic box office performance has been equally impressive, raking in approximately Rs 120 crore.
The film’s popularity showed no signs of waning even during its third weekend, witnessing a steady rise in ticket sales. From a notable Rs 5.5 crore on the third Friday, earnings soared to a robust Rs 8.9 crore by Sunday, reflecting its enduring appeal. This momentum spilled over into the weekdays, maintaining a healthy average daily collection of Rs 2.5 crore.
Weekday screenings continued to draw audiences, evident from the film’s consistent box office performance. On its third Monday, “Manjummel Boys” amassed Rs 3.1 crore, followed by Rs 2.7 crore on Tuesday and Rs 2.55 crore on Wednesday. Although Thursday saw a slight dip in earnings, early estimates suggest a respectable figure of around Rs 2.25 crore.
While the film received acclaim in Kerala, it achieved monumental success in Tamil Nadu, with theaters still witnessing packed houses. During its initial release, “Manjummel Boys” surpassed the record set by “Pulimurugan” in terms of gross collections.
Directed by Chidambaram, this survival drama, inspired by a real-life incident, marks his second directorial outing after the acclaimed “Jan E Man.” The narrative revolves around a group of men from Ernakulam, Kerala, portrayed by talents such as Sreenath Bhasi, Soubin Shahir, Ganapathi, Balu Varghese, and Jean Paul Lal, among others.
