Meta, the social networking platform company, is embarking on its inaugural data center venture in India. The establishment is set to grace the premises of Reliance Industries, helmed by Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani.
This strategic move aims to bolster Meta’s capacity to process locally generated content across popular applications like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp within the Indian landscape.
In early March, Mark Zuckerberg, accompanied by his wife, attended the pre-wedding festivities of Ambani’s youngest son, Anant. Concurrently, insider reports suggest that Meta has forged an agreement with Reliance, securing a site for the data center’s construction.
Upon operationalization, this facility will enable Meta to deploy four to five nodes across various Indian locations, facilitating expedited data processing.
Presently, Meta manages the data of Indian users utilizing its suite of products from a data center situated in Singapore. India boasts a substantial user base, with approximately 314.6 million Facebook users, along with 350 million and 480 million users on Instagram and WhatsApp, respectively.
Concurrently, Google is also poised to establish its inaugural data center in India, with discussions underway to acquire 22.5 acres of land in Navi Mumbai for this purpose.
