Beginning April 13th, Thamel, Kathmandu’s bustling tourist hub, will transition to a 24-hour operational mode.
The Thamel Tourism Development Council has confirmed the decision, signaling readiness for full-time business activities in both the Thamel and Durbar Marga areas starting from the Nepali New Year.
Council Chairperson Bhabiswor Sharma affirmed that comprehensive arrangements have been completed to ensure uninterrupted operations in Thamel and Durbar Marga.
The Kathmandu District Administration Office will oversee security and overall management within the precinct.
Assistant Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Sharma assured that security measures are in place to support the extended operating hours, emphasizing adherence to safety protocols endorsed by stakeholders.
Notably, establishments catering to tourism, encompassing clubs, traditional performances, and discotheques, will remain accessible around the clock.
Chair Sharma specified that night-time commerce will extend throughout Thamel, excluding Bhagawanbahal, following consultations with stakeholders.
Businesses failing to meet prescribed standards will face closure starting April 14th, as per the established code of conduct.
