Uttarakhand, India– Tragic Vehicular Accident Claims Eight Lives in Betalghat Area of Nainital District, India.
In a heart-wrenching incident reported by the police, eight individuals, predominantly citizens of Nepal, met with a fatal accident in the Betalghat area of Nainital district on Monday night. The incident, which occurred approximately 60 kilometers away from the Nainital district headquarters, has left a community in mourning.
According to Aneesh Ahmed, the station house officer (SHO) of Betalghat police station, prompt action was taken upon receiving the distress call. A collaborative effort between local villagers and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) ensued to initiate a rescue operation.
The unfortunate victims, engaged in the Jal Jeevan Mission project in Unchakot village of Betalghat, had completed their day’s work and were on their way back home to Tanakpur of Champawat district via Ramnagar late that Monday evening. Tragically, at around 10:30 pm, the vehicle driven by Rajendra Kumar (38) from Baskot village veered off the road, plunging into a 200-meter gorge, resulting in catastrophic consequences.
The swift response from the villagers, who promptly alerted the authorities, played a crucial role in initiating the rescue efforts. “I swiftly mobilized the SDRF team and engaged local villagers to commence the rescue operation,” stated the SHO, reflecting on the collaborative efforts undertaken in the face of adversity.
The toll of this devastating accident stands at seven Nepalese citizens and the driver, Rajendra Kumar. The victims, identified as Vish Ram (50), Dheeraj (45), Anant Ram Chaudhary (40), Vinod Chaudhary (38), Uday Ram Chaudhary (55), Tilak Ram Chaudhary (45), and Gopal (60), were employees under a contractor for the project. Additionally, two individuals, Shanti Chaudhary and Chhotu Chaudhary, sustained injuries in the accident, adding to the tragedy.
