Kali Bahadur Kham, a prominent leader of the CPN (Maoist Center), has been apprehended for his suspected role in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of businessman Ram Hari Shrestha from Koteshwar.
This incident occurred two years following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord by the Maoist rebels. Kham, who had been evading authorities for 15 years after the crime, was finally captured by a specialized team from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, confirming his arrest, as stated by a senior officer.
The unfortunate demise of businessman Shrestha dates back to 2065 BS, and it is alleged that his murder was orchestrated under the orders of Kham. Another key figure in this case, Maoist commander Govinda Bahadur Batala, was also arrested but later released.
Kham’s involvement in the Shrestha murder case is believed to be significant, with authorities considering him the mastermind behind the crime. Initially serving as a division commander among the Maoist combatants, Kham currently holds a position within the security department of the Maoist Center.
It’s worth noting that the security department operates under the leadership of Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the vice chairman of the Maoist Center, adding another layer of complexity to this unfolding narrative.
