NUWAKOT- The Trishuli River bridge at Bidur Municipality-6 in Nuwakot district has been completely closed to both pedestrians and vehicles following the snapping of one of its four cables, as announced by Mayor Rajan Shrestha.
Erected almost four decades ago during the development phase of the Devighat Hydropower Centre, the bridge has served as a crucial link for local communities. However, concerns regarding its structural stability arose when the cable malfunction was initially discovered in December of the previous year. Since then, only two-wheeled vehicles have been allowed passage.
Mayor Shrestha has reassured the public that endeavors are in progress to promptly mend the bridge, with the goal of reopening it at the earliest convenience.
In the interim, the Municipality has advised drivers and pedestrians to utilize alternative routes via the bridges at Dhunibesi of Simchaur and Devighat.
The closure of the Trishuli bridge at Bidur Municipality-6 has severed the direct link between Bidur Municipality-4 and Mandredhunga of Bidur-6, affecting travel routes leading to Tarakeshwar Rural Municipality and Dhadingbesi.
This closure accentuates the significance of timely infrastructure maintenance and underscores the challenges associated with aging infrastructure in rural areas.
