Govt advocates Urge Patan High Court for Action in Sandeep Lamichhane Rape Case

Sandeep Lamichhane case update

The government’s legal representatives have filed a petition with the Patan High Court, urging for stricter actions against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane regarding a rape case.

They contend that the ruling from the Kathmandu District Court did not meet their expectations. Initially, the Kathmandu District Court had sentenced Sandeep Lamichhane to eight years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 after finding him guilty in the rape case.

However, government advocates had pressed for a minimum sentence of 13 years, highlighting that the victim is a minor.

The petition also requests the nullification of the Kathmandu District Court’s decision, arguing that it failed to meet their demands and wrongly classified the victim as an adult.

In a separate development, Sandeep Lamichhane has filed a petition seeking exoneration in the Patan High Court.
