Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the former Speaker of the lower house of parliament and Vice Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) has been hospitalized at Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu.
Mahara, who is under suspicion in a gold smuggling case, was apprehended in Bhairahawa on Monday following orders from the Home Ministry, acting upon the recommendations of the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission.
The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to detain Mahara for four days to facilitate further investigation.
Moreover, upon Mahara’s appeal citing ongoing medical treatment for tuberculosis, uric acid, and prostate conditions, the court has directed the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) to allow him to remain in the hospital.
