BIRATNAGAR, MORANG– The Machchhindra Football Club emerged victorious in the final match of the 8th Birat Gold Cup International Invitational Knockout Football Tournament, held at Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Saturday night. They clinched the title by defeating Shangri-La Football Club with a scoreline of 2-0.
Despite a goalless 90 minutes, Machchhindra’s strikers stepped up, securing the win with goals in the 113th and 119th minutes. Tshiring Gurung and Yusup Thapaliya each contributed a crucial goal for Machchhindra.
The victory earned Machchhindra Football Club a prize of Rs 1.1 million, while the runner-up, Shangri-La Football Club, received Rs 550,000.
Laken Limbu of Machchhindra Club was honored as the Player of the Match, whereas Mahendra Karki from Shangri-La Club was recognized as the tournament’s best player. Additionally, Bishal Shrestha received the title of best goalkeeper, Santosh Neupane as the best coach, and Stephen Winong as the highest scorer for Machchhindra Club, each winning Rs 21,000.
The tournament featured 10 teams, including representatives from India and Bhutan.
