Kathmandu– 13 individuals were apprehended by the police in Banchare Danda for obstructing waste disposal efforts in the area.
Kathmandu Police spokesperson SSP Navaraj Adhikari stated that locals stopped vehicles transporting waste from Kathmandu to Banchare Danda this morning, resulting in the arrests.
Upon receiving reports of the obstruction in waste disposal, a prompt response was initiated by a police team from Balaju and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police.
The arrested individuals are presently detained at the Balaju Police Circle, with decisions on their legal proceedings expected today.
Around forty tipper trucks loaded with waste have reached Banchare Danda.
Residents of Nuwakot and Dhading had announced their intentions to disrupt waste disposal activities from today, following prior announcements on waste management measures.
Rambhakta Dhungana, coordinator of the Banchare Danda Landfill Site Affected Area Management Committee, linked the local protest to the government’s failure to address demands voiced during an all-party meeting, including those presented to the Prime Minister last March.
