Dhading: A tragic bus accident occurred on Wednesday in Gajuri Rural Municipality-5, Dhading, claiming the lives of seven individuals.
The incident involved a Kathmandu-bound bus with the registration plate Lu 2 Kha 2121, which veered into the Trishuli River at Ghatbesi along the Prithvi Highway at approximately 4:40 am.
Superintendent of Police Gautam KC from the Dhading District Police Office reported that among the casualties, which include a woman, the identities of the deceased remain unknown. The mishap also left at least 30 passengers injured.
Following initial assistance at a local health facility, the injured individuals were promptly rescued and transported to Kathmandu for further medical treatment, as stated by SP Gautam. The rescue efforts were a collaborative endeavor involving locals, the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and the Nepal Army.
Given the bus’s plunge into the river, there is concern that the death toll may escalate. A joint team comprising the Armed Police Force and personnel from Disaster Management Training School, Kurintar, Chitwan, is actively engaged in the ongoing rescue operation.
Authorities have taken swift action by apprehending the bus driver, 38-year-old Hariram Harijan of Lumbini Sanskriti Municipality-9 in Rupandehi.
