Woman killed due to elephant attack in Jhapa  

JHAPA- A woman died in an elephant attack on Friday night, according to Ward Chairman Lal Bahadur Bista In Kamal Rural Municipality in Jhapa district.

The deceased, 58-year-old Khadga Maya Limbu, from Guhyeshwari Tole-5 of Kamal Rural Municipality, was attacked by an elephant. The incident occurred around 11:50 pm when the elephant strayed into her home, where she was sleeping.

According to Bista, Limbu’s family had been living in Ratumai for several years, making a living by planting trees in the forest. Similarly, a few years ago, Rohit Regmi, 58, died in an elephant attack in the same settlement.

Just three days ago, in Shivsatashi of the district, when an elephant attacked, 60-year-old Pabitra Bhetwal died, and her husband, 62-year-old Dilip Bhetwal, was seriously injured.

This year, seven people have died in elephant attacks in Jhapa, including seven serious injuries, according to Anjana Puri, information officer at the Division Forest Office.
