13th Nepal European Union Film Festival 2024 kick-off

The 13th edition of the Nepal European Union Film Festival 2024 (NEUFF) commenced in Kathmandu on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a cinematic celebration. This year’s festival carries the theme of honoring ‘Fifty Years of EU-Nepal Relations: Embracing Cultural Diversity.’

Veronique Lorenzo, the EU Ambassador to Nepal, highlighted that this edition of the festival aligns with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of EU-Nepal diplomatic ties.

Upsana Singh Thakuri, the festival ambassador and actress, emphasized the significance of the EU Nepal film festival as a remarkable platform for showcasing both Nepali and European cinema, promoting intercultural cinematic diversity. Actor Dhiraj Magar, speaking at the opening ceremony, acknowledged the EU’s pivotal role in facilitating the exchange of European and Nepali films, enhancing cultural dialogue.

The festival commenced with the screening of the acclaimed film ‘The Banshees of Inisherin,’ directed by Martin McDonagh, alongside the Nepali film ‘Dhye Dreams,’ directed by Shanta Nepali. Throughout the festival, a total of nine European films and 11 Nepali short films will be showcased.

After Kathmandu, the festival will journey to the Sudurpashchim province, with screenings scheduled at the Far Western University hall on April 10 and 11. Subsequently, it will proceed to the Lumbini province on April 15 and the Karnali Province on April 19 and 20, as announced during the program.
